Honoring a legacy of service, solidarity, and fighting for working people.
The Larry Griffith Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Larry Griffith, Secretary-Treasurer and Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 14, whose lifetime of dedication to working people left an enduring mark on Southern Nevada and the labor movement nationwide.
This scholarship exists to carry that legacy forward — investing in the next generation of leaders who share Larry's belief that every worker deserves dignity, a fair wage, and a voice on the job.Scholarship details and application information coming soon. Check back for updates.
Larry Griffith spent 55 years as a Teamster — starting out hauling Cadillacs after his military service and rising to become one of the most respected labor leaders in Nevada history.
As Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 14, Larry thought beyond the contract. In 2019, he opened the Teamsters Local 14 Family and Wellness Center, giving members and their families access to primary care and health services at no cost.
That same year, Larry was instrumental in the passage of SB 135, a landmark Nevada law granting 20,000 state employees the right to collectively bargain — the most significant expansion of collective bargaining rights for state workers in the country in 16 years.
He was a pioneer, a political force, and a friend to everyone who came through Las Vegas. Governors called him. Members trusted him. And the city is better because he was here.
